About

I’m a 33-year-old guy with an awesome wife and little boy. I use the term “guy” there because I feel a little uncomfortable with “man”. Most of the time, I still feel like a bit of a kid.

My sense of humor is a balance of black and white… on one hand, I have a dark, dry, sarcastic streak that’s 40 miles wide. On the other, I like cartoons and rage comics, and will cackle like a madman at Damn You Auto Correct. I love to laugh. Given the choice, I’d always prefer a comedy to a drama. After all, life is full of enough drama as it is.

I love music of all kinds. The only genre of music that I’ve never been able to find any redeeming qualities in is country. I’m also not a fan of anything that’s been on the radio in the past 15 years or so. Popular music has just gone to hell, hasn’t it? It’s getting harder and harder to find a “recording artist” that actually knows how to play an instrument. I take music and musicianship very seriously. I was inspired by Nirvana at the age of 13 to pick up a guitar for the first time, and I’ve never regretted it. It makes me happy when my son (who’s almost 11 months old) shows interest in my guitar and various music-making iPad apps. I hope he caught the bug from me.

Video games are a favorite pastime of mine as well. I play World of Warcraft pretty regularly, along with a variety of Xbox 360 games. I’m a big fan of the Rock Band series. I miss Mega Man and various other 8-bit game franchises.

I make my living as a computer tech. I used to really love computers.

I’m extremely interested in food. I enjoy learning everything I can about food and cooking, despite the fact that I can’t cook at all. I learned a great deal of what I know about food from watching Food Network and various Gordon Ramsay shows. My wife is an amazing cook, and she’s been quick to let me get in the kitchen and try whatever insane thing I wanted to. Occasionally I come up with something good.

This blog is a lot like this post… a general mish-mash of things that I like and dislike, along with thoughts I think. I hope you enjoy it. 🙂

  1. I’m from the great (ha!) state of Alabama, and yes, I want to move elsewhere. 😉 My name doesn’t really stand for much of anything… rtik is a nonsense word that I made up, and I’ve always been partial to the number 13 since most people associate it with bad luck.
